SOME years ago, when I lived in Perth, Western Australia, a ship came in to port nearby.
The sailors had been out at sea for quite some time. The captain had a great idea. He hired a dance hall, and a band, and supplied unlimited drink.
He publicly invited all the girls and women who wanted to come. No men from the city were invited. For a week, the sailors had a great time.
There were fights, upsets, broken engagements, divorces and later, a few babies. The social devastation was immeasurable.
Can anyone now perceive what is likely to happen in Pershore, if or when 750 refugees come to live locally?
HELENA F MORRIS, Wick, Pershore.
