WELLAND racer Daniel Gillett, a member of the Silverstone In-Kart Club, scorched to his first win in the latest round of the Silverstone In-Kart Championship.

Having spent most of last season following Silverstone's tuition programme, this year has seen his first full season of racing. He set himself the target of finishing fifth or higher in the championship and is currently in third place with two more races to go.

Daniel, aged 13, has been on the podium several times already this year, but in Sunday's race, he went one better and won the overall event.

Having scored sufficient points in the heats, he qualified fourth on the grid for the semi final, which he then went on to win, after passing the other drivers, who included the championship leader and also his rival for third place in the championship.

For the final he started second on the grid and moved into the lead as the lights turned green at the start. He remained in this position throughout the race, despite immense pressure from behind, and took the chequered flag, confirmed as race winner.

Daniel said: "I would like to thank my sponsors Aerosystems International for giving me the opportunity to take my first event victory and have such a successful season. Without their sponsorship I would not have been able to attend a full season of racing."

Daniel is currently looking at race options for next year, hopefully with SRS racing, a team owned by former British and European Kart Champion Stuart Ziemellis.
