ACOUSTIC roots duo Chris While and Julie Matthews will bring a unique blend of vocal styles to Worcester on Tuesday (October 29).

The pair, who are appearing at Huntingdon Hall, have been steadily building up a loyal following since they left the Albion Band, where they met in the early 1990s.

Throughout the last 12 months they have been touring the UK, Australia and Europe, and are plotting an assault on the US in the not-too-distant future.

Despite widespread acc-laim for their particular style, which Chris says blends rock and folk among other influences, they have problems receiving the recognition they would like at home in the UK.

She says this is because radio play for their kind of music, such as slots on Radio Two, is dominated by acts from the United States. "If you turn on Johnny Walker, 90 per cent of the music is American," she said, "People like us find it very difficult."

American radio, however, has whole stations devoted to "adult contemporary" music, a category they feel they fall into, which is why they are planning a US tour.

However, Tuesday's gig is a chance to sample the "warm, friendly atmosphere" Chris says suffuses their live appearances before they start globetrotting again.

Their performance starts at 8pm, with tickets (£10, £9) available from the box office on 01905 611427.
