ST AUSTELL 1

COLWALL WHC 1

COLWALL Womens Hockey Club made the long trip to Cornwall and came away with a West Clubs Women's Premier League point which should really have been all three.

Colwall played the first 20 minutes with ten players but still put pressure on the St Austell goal with Nina Emery and Karen Hackley both having shots saved.

Once Colwall were at full strength they deservedly went ahead when they were awarded a penalty corner, Karen Hackley's shot saved by the goal keeper but Laura Macfarlane was well placed to net the rebound.

St Austell rallied to equalise just after half time when the ball was struck at waist height into the goal, the umpire deeming that it was not dangerous.

Colwall went up a gear and produced several short corners but faced a solid wall of defenders. Polly Bounds had a solo effort well saved and Jackie Styles had an effort cleared off the line. A game of missed chances for Colwall in a match which they deserved to win.

Colwall resume their league fixtures on November 2 when they play Bournemouth Ladies at Ledbury Leisure Centre.
