MUSICIANS, dancers, artists and craft workers will be among a host of Malvern people appearing at a Worcestershire Skills on Show event in Worcester.

The show, at County Hall tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday, is intended to showcase local talent and features a comprehensive list of exhibitors and performers from across the region. The event has been organised by Worcestershire County Council.

Malvern violinist and teacher Janet Masters will be inviting all comers to join in a musical workshop, from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday (October 20).

The first hour of will be spent with pupils of Ms Masters, co-leader of the English Symphony Orchestra, and members of the ESO's youth orchestra. During the second hour, violinists of any age, from Grade IV upwards, can join in a workshop studying Pachelbel's Canon.

Ms Masters said the exercise would show how the ESO works with youngsters, through various youth orchestras.

"I've done the show for the past three years," said Ms Masters. "This time I thought I'd do some violin pieces. They won't have seen the music before so it'll be them working from scratch.

"It'll show how much the children can learn and how much enjoyment they can get from performing."

Also taking part is West Malvern-based Bobbin Martin, a glass engraver. Her work usually consists of glass doors, mirrors and the like, although for Skills on Show she will be working on smaller items because of space limitations.

"There's always a point in having your work seen," said Ms Martin, who displays some of her work at the Lyttelton House Gallery.

"Outside that I don't show much, so these things are good from that point of view."

Other taking part in the event include local jazz and ceilidh bands, dance groups, card makers, calligraphists, tapestry-workers, sculptors etc.

Last year's Worcestershire Skills on Show event drew crowds estimated at 13,000.
