HOUSEHOLDERS suffering from noise and anti-social behaviour in a park say the installation of security measures worth £30,000 will not solve their problems.

A 13ft high sound-proof fence, railings and an electronic gate have been ordered by Malvern Town Council for one side of Victoria Park.

They will separate the park from homes on Park Close, whose residents say they are constantly besieged by noise and the anti-social behaviour of youths using it.

The council's operations manager, Richard Chapman, said the changes would cost around £30,000.

"It's not cheap but if we went for the cheaper option we might be doing it again in five years' time," he said.

But Martin Cale, whose Spring Lane home backs on to the park, said it was "throwing taxpayers' money away". He said that while the fence would stop youths driving on to the grass, it would do nothing to halt noise nuisance from the sports area and skatepark. He said residents had written to the council threatening legal advice to force it to remove the facilities.
