WEST Malvern lost their first Worcester Saturday Division One match of the season at home on Saturday when for the second week running they failed to convert a penalty, but this time they paid dearly for it.

WEST MALVERN 2, FERNHILL HEATH SPURS 5

The game started brightly with both sides striving to take the initiative. In the 25th minute the West took the lead when a free kick from Andy Pugh was headed in by Lee Tracy. The West's lead lasted barely a minute because a long ball into the defence saw players leaving the ball for one another and Fernhill nipped in to score. To make matters worse they gave the ball away in midfield and from a resulting corner keeper Newman flapped at the ball and Fernhill Heath headed home to go 2-1 in front.

The second half started with the West striving to get into the game but once again they defended poorly and conceded a third goal.

West hit back and from a free kick by Matty Powell the ball was partially cleared to Dan Sullivan who blasted the ball home from 15 yards to score his first goal for the club.

Lee Tracy and Will Hardy were causing problems for the Fernhill Heath defence and this resulted in Tracy being fouled in the penalty area but Will Hardy's penalty hit the outside of the post and went wide.

The West then once again conceded to go 4-2 down and finally with less than five minutes to go Fernhill Heath scored a fifth.

Tomorrow (Saturday) West Malvern travel to Goodrest Sports at Perdiswell. Players meet at 2pm sharp Eurohaus Malvern Link or Perdiswell Leisure Centre 2.25pm.
