MARK LOWNDES stepped off the subs bench to grab a vital late equaliser as Anchor Falcons gained their second successive Worcester Sunday Division Four draw in this keenly contested game.

BARBOURNE CELTIC 1, ANCHOR FALCONS 1

Lowndes struck with 10 minutes remaining to leave the home side disappointed, but it was no less than the Falcons deserved after a determined second half comeback.

Celtic took a 25th minutes lead when Chris Williams handled a mis-directed header from Will Hale in the box. The guilty party fortunate that the melee of players blocked the referee's view leaving him unable to dismiss the player.

The penalty was firmly struck and although keeper Shane Oseman got a hand to it, the home side went ahead. Anchor were unfortunate not to draw level on 34 minutes when Dave Jenkinson fired over.

An honest half time team talk woke the visitors up, and more was seen from Rich Lambert and Dave Ainslow down the flank. With Will Hale working hard to push as much ball through to the front men, gradually the game swung the visitors way. Jenkinson and Ben Ratcliffe caused plenty of problems, and Rich Bryan's runs from midfield gave the home defence much to worry about. However, still they couldn't find a way through and Celtic could have increased their lead but for the brilliance of Oseman. Twice he made stunning low saves as the visitor's defence was breached, and went on to deservedly collect the man of the match accolade.

Finally the Falcons found a way through, Mark Lowndes, who had replaced the injured Dyl Wilkins, raced into the box and latched on to a perfect low cross from Jenkinson. His first time shot nestled in the back of the net and the Falcons' players celebrated wildly.

There was further drama to come. With five minutes remaining Rich Bryan was hacked down and in the fracas that followed both he and the guilty defender received red cards.

The game then petered out and a draw was probably the fairest result possible.

This Sunday the Falcons entertain Bransford Rovers at Dyson Perrins School. Players meet 9.45am, kick off 10.30am.

The club is holding a general knowledge quiz night in the Anchor next Friday (October 25) starting at 8pm. Teams of four (max) at £8 per team. Good prizes on offer!
