MALVERN Rangers' recent mini revival came to an abrupt end when they visited Brintons to play Chaddesley Corbett in a West Midlands Division One South game on Saturday.

CHADDESLEY CORBETT 5, MALVERN RANGERS 0

The home side's last victory was against Rangers some five weeks ago when they went joint top, so they were no doubt quite pleased that Rangers were their visitors.

Rangers' cause was not helped however with no less than seven players from last week's squad of 16 being unavailable for a variety of reasons.

Phil Birch was called into action as an emergency striker and Simon Rea returned after his exploits in last week's Great North Run.

The opening 10 minutes saw Rangers more than hold their own and they looked quite comfortable. However after 13 minutes, the home side took the lead. A degree of confusion in the Rangers' defence seemed to have been overcome but when Tim Clarke looked to have shepherded the ball over the goal line it was whipped back to the far post where Craig Pratt headed home.

Just seven minutes later and it was 2-0. Craig Penney had possession in the right back position but his attempted clearance went into Rangers' penalty area where Mark White fouled an opponent. Richard Burton comfortably scored from the resultant penalty kick.

Following a Rangers attack breaking down on the half hour mark a long ball was pumped forward for Craig Pratt, who looked offside, but he carried on to give keeper Ross Sanders little chance.

The opening 15 minutes or so of the second half again saw Rangers enjoy a good amount of possession and after only four minutes Chris Davis hit a long range lobbed shot goalwards and keeper Gareth Yarsley bent over backwards to touch the ball over the crossbar.

Any hopes of a revival however were totally extinguished after 20 minutes when, following a right wing attack, a far post cross resulted in a simple tap in for Horace McLeod. With nine minutes remaining the scoring was completed when Ross Sanders made a good block save from Burton but Russell Wright followed up to tap home.

Starting his first game for five weeks, man of the match was Marc Lines.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Rangers, sponsored by Willie Thornes Snooker Club, entertain Mahal in a West Midlands League Division One South fixture, kick off 2.45pm, players to meet ground 1.30pm.
