WORCESTER City Football Club will have to wait a further five weeks for the city council's verdict on its proposed stadium development.

The council has postponed the decision day until Tuesday, December 10, to allow its consultants more time to analyse the impact studies and business plan prepared by the club.

It had originally planned to give its verdict on the proposed 6,000-seater stadium and B&Q enabling development on Tuesday, November 5, at a full council meeting.

The scheme will first be discussed at a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, November 26. If councillors support the bid, a local plan inquiry will make a final decision on whether it can go ahead.

If they reject the proposed development, the club must decide whether to appeal.

City director and company secretary Brian Lankester said he was unsure how the delay would affect their bid.

"As long as they consider the proposal thoroughly then putting it back is fine, as long as it doesn't impinge on other time constraints," he said.

"We've been trying to move for 10 years, so another month isn't going to make much difference.

"Our campaign of collecting letters of support for the bid will continue."

Almost 2,800 letters of support have been received, either by the Mayor of Worcester or the club itself.

The letter has been published in the Evening News for readers to cut out and send to the Mayor, Coun Robert Rowden.

"The campaign is going well," said Mr Lankester. "So far, we've had overwhelming support from everyone we've spoken to.

"Letters are still coming in thick and fast, and we are expecting them to reach a substantial five figure no by the time the council makes its decision."
