Devizes 2, Bretforton 1

SOPHIE Corbett was Bretforton's scoring star as the villagers rattled up a fine win.

Lisa Workman and Deb Slatter paved the way for visiting early attacks that proved just as fruitless as ones at the opposite end.

However, Corbett struck after 20 minutes following a crisply taken short corner from Sarah Adams.

The Devizes defence were up against it after the restart and Corbett and Kate Mitchell came close to adding to the visiting side's lead.

The pair's effort were rewarded when Julie Stowe's good work picked out Mitchell who passed to player of the match Corbett to double the lead.

Only a fine palm over from the Wiltshire side's goalkeeper denied Corbett a hat-trick before it was turn of Blanch Surman and Jane Wheeler to display their collective defensive powers as Devizes sought a lifeline.

There was a blow for the winners late on when Workman received a blow to the head and was forced to leave the field and her side short for the final few moments as Bretforton had travelled with 12 players but only 11 skirts!

The match ball was sponsored by W J Findons Fine Plants.

It's the women's Trophy Knockout on Sunday when Harborne are the visitors to Evesham High School for a 2pm start.

Bretforton II 1, Hereford II 0

GOALKEEPER Fiona Jordan was voted player of the match as Bretforton kept a clean sheet to earn the narrowest of wins at Evesham HS last Saturday.

Poor passing spoiled the village side's first half display and it needed the move of Bobbie Handley from left defence to central midfield to finally break through Hereford's resilient rearguard.

Persistence paid off just 30 seconds from the end when Sarah Hall netted a dramatic winner.

The seconds, sponsored by Fairview Trading of Honeybourne, travel to Bromsgrove on Saturday for a friendly outing.
