HAVING waited in a wind tunnel, cold on a warm day with no view except for buses going to other destinations and blank walls, I began to think Lord Archer had a warmer environment and a better view.

No inspector was in sight for an explanation and the dreary, paper-blown area that is our new bus station waiting area was NOT the place to be on this Saturday lunchtime.

Not content with squandering a vast amount of money building a dismal monstrosity for the people who have to use public transport, the routes which had served the community have been shortened, cancelled or re-routed to avoid taking people where they need to go.

I have no doubt the person who designed this inefficient public service was well paid and enjoys driving a car home each evening.

The leaflets described this fiasco as an improvement and more convenient - but for whom?

Bus shelters have been removed, bus stops spread wider apart or taken away altogether and access to side roads from these bus stops is further away. Old people and young mothers with pushchairs and shopping have a longer haul, in many cases uphill.

Redditch Overground does not have a level ground to travel on, but perhaps the person who thought up this marvellous name does not know the area, or the routes.

The number 64 now travels not up the hills that exist in the Greenlands area but along a road with no houses, people or bus stops.

I overheard a couple, departing for a taxi, remark this was the first and last time they would visit Redditch.

I would imagine people with their own transport will go elsewhere in order to shop without extortionate parking fees.

They really have made a mess of what was once a reasonable country town.
