SEPTEMBER was the month for the club's annual outing when members enjoyed a day out at Blists Hill Victorian town, which is part of the Ironbridge Gorge Museum. The trip coincided with the museum's steam weekend, so many of the machine exhibits were up and running, adding their unique sounds and smells to the already realistic environment.

A trip to the fair also proved to be an interesting experience as a documentary was being filmed which was being presented by Suggs - singer with the pop group Madness. Several members of the Club got to meet Suggs and he even posed for a photo with long serving club member and unique character Maggie Williams - who was celebrating her 80th Birthday. Some members were even roped in as extras to ride the horses on the fairground roundabout and may well be seen in the documentary when it appears on our television screens in February.

At the monthly meeting, members enjoyed a cheese and wine evening where each member brought along a bottle of their favourite commercial wine for other members to sample. Two big bundles of photographs taken by Cindy and Mike circulated the room during the evening and brought back many memories of people and events in the club's long history.

The monthly wine competition was the Bill Chapman Trophy, which is a three-bottle class. Dave Hirons came second and Sylvia Lakin became the first woman to win a trophy this year when she took first place. Graham Hawkins judged the competition.
