A PREGNANT Worcester car passenger grabbed a handbag from the vehicle and went on a spending spree with an accomplice, Worcester magistrates heard.

Paula Slemp, aged 20, snatched the bag when she was a passenger alongside her accomplice in a car belonging to a social worker.

With her friend, who cannot be named for legal reasons, she handed over a stolen credit card at Co-op in Lichfield Avenue, Ronkswood, for food valued at £39.49.

The pair, who both admitted four counts of obtaining goods by deception, then clocked up a £57.70 bill at Tesco St Peter's, spent £166.32 in Sainsbury's and £10.90 at Bargain Booze.

Deceptions

"This happened on Monday, August 5, when the social worker agreed to give them both a lift," said Mark Soper, prosecuting yesterday.

"In the car was a handbag and there was a purse inside.

"Various deceptions followed on from that and there's an element of breach of trust here."

Rob Macrory, defending Slemp, of Troutbeck Drive, Warndon, asked magistrates to adjourn the case for pre-sentence reports to be prepared.

Slemp, who is expecting a child in December, will appear before magistrates on Tuesday, November 5.

Her co-accused, also defended by Mr Macrory will appear at Worcester Youth Court on Wednesday, October 30.
