THERE will be no hiding place for local politicians next week when Worcestershire County Council opens its doors to the public for a special question time evening.

People are invited to turn up on the night and quiz the council's cabinet members on subjects such as roads, social care, education or planning.

Leader of the council, Dr George Lord, will be taking questions along with his key decision-making cabinet members.

The evening will be chaired by BBC Midlands Today presenter Bernadette Kearney and highlights will be broadcast on BBC Hereford & Worcester the following morning.

Youthcomm, the new media arm of the county council's youth service, will also broadcast the event across the internet.

Nick Riding, area democracy manager, at County Hall said the evening was part of Local Democracy Week.

"It will give members of the public a chance to put questions directly to the county council's decision-makers.

"I am sure it will give people a unique insight into the workings of the council and help to involve more people with a democratic process," he said.

"We're delighted that Bernadette Kearney will be chairing the evening, and we are all looking forward to a lively and enjoyable event," he added.

Cabinet Question Time takes place at County Hall, Worcester, on Tuesday, October 15.

Tea and sandwiches will be available from 6.45pm, with the event itself starting at 7.15pm, until approximately 9pm.

Entry if free of charge. For more information telephone Mr Riding on 01905 728515.
