THE Malvern U14 'Pirates' ambitions for a good run in the North Midlands U14 Cup were ended abruptly on Sunday when they lost by 5-10 to Camp Hill U14 'Sharks'.

MALVERN U14s 5pts, CAMP HILL U14s 10pts

Camp Hill took the initiative and winger Sam Yarwood rounded the normally secure Malvern defence to score in the corner and put the visitors 5-0 ahead with three minutes on the clock.

Malvern regained their composure and responded with determination but the in-roads made into the Camp Hill defence by the Malvern pack were sadly wasted.

Camp Hill made-good of Malvern's self-inflicted misfortune and the home side were again under-pressure on their own-line.

In the first part of the second period, Malvern were clearly in control of affairs and they started to put together some promising moves. At last the back division got into its stride and David Morgans slipped his tackler on the Camp Hill 10 metre only to be bundled into touch 10 metres from the try-line. The set piece was won by Malvern and from a pick-and-drive move, flank forward Alex McToal crossed the line to level the score; John Brierly narrowly missing a difficult conversion kick.

Then Malvern mysteriously let the initiative slip through their grasp. A series of self-inflicted penalty offences were exploited by Camp Hill and with six minutes remaining Yarwood crossed the Malvern line for a second time to hand Camp Hill a 10-5 victory

The 'Pirates' will now enter the North Midlands U14 Plate with close neighbours Worcester.
