AROUND 270 runners are expected to take part in the annual Worcestershire Beacon Race across the Malvern Hills tomorrow (Saturday).

Numbers have been boosted this year by a contingent from Guernsey and a record entry is now expected.

One of the organisers, John Brook, said: "We have 160 runners registered and usually get more than 100 on the day so we are looking at the highest ever entry."

The race is again sponsored by Brookhire, with additional sponsorship this year from Malvern Outdoors and Runaround, and is organised by the Worcester Athletic Club.

Runners set off from the Rose Bank Gardens in Malvern at 3pm before tackling a testing course of just under 10k, which takes the Worcestershire Beacon.

Entries on the day at the St John Ambulance Hall, Portland Road, up until 2pm or contact John Brook on 01684 571717.
