West Mercia Police Authority is looking four people to act as independent members to find out the views of local communities on policing issues.

The aim is to improve the quality of life and safety in the area.

Volunteers will be required to work for at least 10 hours a week attending meetings and discussions, liaising with local people and keeping up to date with local and national policing developments.

The posts will start next April.

Joyce Thomas, chairman of West Mercia Police Authority, said: "Independent members come from all walks of life and I would strongly encourage everyone to consider the contribution they could make in this role.

"The police service is undergoing major reform and you can plan an active part in ensuring that we work with the Chief Constable to respond effectively to the policing needs of our local communities."

Applicants must be over 21. For more information, contact the clerk of the Police Authority at PO Box 487 Shrewsbury SY2 6WB or call 01743 344314 or visit www.apa.police/apply. The closing date for applications is Thursday October 31.
