Oliver Lever (Your Letters, October 4) made many valid points regarding the provision of bus stops in Great Malvern.

However, as the bulk of his suggestions revolve around the use of the "bus stop" in Edith Walk both he and the rest of the Gazette readers should be aware of the history surrounding its provision.

On the surface it may seem perverse that this facility has never been used but this due entirely to health and safety legislation.

Both the local bus operators and their employees refused to use the Edith Walk bus stop as they considered it was unsafe to pick up and disembark passengers on such a steep gradient particularly in wet and icy conditions.

As both the bus operators and their drivers have a duty of care and are liable in the event of any accidents they had no option but to take the course of action that they did.

Sadly life is never as simple as it may seem.
