TO follow the word NIMBY into the english language, should be the word INYBY (It's not your back yard) judging from the letters of Madames Craze and Ralph (Your Letters, October 4), two people perfectly placed to judge any noise nuisance caused to the residents of Malvern Wells, living, as they do, in the centre of Malvern!

They have given faith to my long held theory that some Malvern people believe that anyone residing in the area for less than two centuries is a 'newcomer' and should be disenfranchised and deported at the very least.

Equally absurd is the view of the Three Counties Agricultural Society, which obviously takes the view that it can do what it likes providing it gives neighbours orders in advance to lock their dogs in the house.

Quite rightly MHDC has said that its professional officers will look into the matter, and no doubt reach an unbiased opinion one way or another.

We are all fully aware that like the farming community, the Three Counties Agricultural Society has taken a financial bashing the past few years and has sought to diversify. This, however, should not be done at the expense of its neighbours.

The correct way forward, should the original planning consent have been solely for agricultural related events, is for the society to apply for an alteration of that consent with a new planning application.

This offers people directly affected by the application a right to object, or support as the case may be.

It also means that MHDC can require from the society an environmental impact survey, where the effects of noise, traffic, air pollution etc. from the showground must be studied and a report submitted. It also offers the planners an opportunity to agree to music events etc. while putting a boundary noise level into the consent to protect neighbours.
