PATRICIA Hewitt MP, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, has said "world-beating" technological development at Malvern Hills Science Park signals a bright future for the area.

Speaking after officially unveiling its £1.8 million Regional Technology Exchange on Wednesday (October 9), she said she had been very impressed with everything she had seen being developed there.

"It's world-beating stuff, right here in the Malvern Hills," she said. "This combination of world-beating technology, strong, effective local leadership from the councils and the private sector and the beautiful environment are going to make Malvern and Worcester a real magnet for high technology companies in future."

After visiting several firms based at the exchange, which received funding of £1.3 million from her department, Ms Hewitt said high technology is the future for British manufacturing.

She added that she had been particularly impressed by pSiMedica's development of silicon vessels to carry drugs round the human body and ZBD Systems' work on LCD screens that do not need power.

"What's outstanding is the quality of the businesses here and the people in them," she said. "They are outstanding businesses with huge potential."
