"SOMETHING a bit different" is how staff at The Gallery, Malvern, describe the latest exhibition at the Worcester Road studio.

Young artist Jenni Sanderson, from Bastonford, is showing her work until later this month - a mix of sculpture, 3D multimedia and paintings. The 16-year-old, a sixth form student at Dyson Perrins High School, describes it as modern and experimental.

She said: "I find the traditional stuff boring. I take some inspiration from older stuff, like Picasso, but not too old!"

Jenni said her inspiration came from anything, although birds feature prominently in her work. Some of the exhibits are a result of schoolwork, but much is done at home or on courses.

Despite her talent, she said she had no plans to be a professional artist.

"I want to have a science career. I'll just keep art as a hobby," she said.

Jenni's mother, Diana , is also manager of The Gallery, but she rejected any suggestion of nepotism.

"It was our secretary, Peter Wale, who suggested we do her exhibition. I just run the shop for them," she said.

"It's very different from what we have had in the past, youthful, broad and it's nice to encourage youngsters to show their work. We are there for the community."

As a mother, Mrs Sanderson admitted she was "very proud" to see her daughter's work on show.

"She's always been interested in art, since day one," she said.

Mrs Sanderson said that anyone else interested in exhibiting at The Gallery should contact her on 01684 566872.

Jenni Sanderson's exhibition runs until Wednesday, October 23. The Gallery is open from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday.
