GREEN-FINGERED gardeners and allotment holders who brought riot of colour to Worcester during the summer months have been honoured at a special award ceremony.
The Worcester in Bloom Association and the Worcester Allotment Forum staged the event at Huntingdon Hall.
Cups, plaques, prizes and certificates were presented to around 100 winners. There were all the usual categories, including best guesthouse garden and best pub garden.
And some new categories were introduced this year to commend community gardening projects, hanging baskets, flats including patios and balconies, permanently landscaped gardens and small businesses.
Also, for the first time, the Worcester Allotment Forum joined with the Worcester in Bloom Association to award the city's allotment gardeners for their skills in growing fruit, vegetables and flowers.
Worcester Garden Centre has donated the prizes for the allotment competition and a cup for outstanding achievement in gardening.
"The standard of entries for this year's competition was quite outstanding," said Chris Waterfall, community and development officer for Worcester City Council.
"It is a pleasure to recognise the efforts and talent of the many people who have helped enrich the city."
