A MINISTER is taking to the bagpipes to raise money for his church.

Folk have the chance to dance to live music at a ceilidh night at the Baxter United Reformed Church hall in Kidderminster's Bull Ring on Saturday.

And the Rev Gerald England is taking to the traditional Scottish instrument to set the mood for the Highland dance event starting at 8pm. Rev Gerald England is set to play the bagpipes.

Helping out is the Kiddermin-ster and District Scottish Society, and proceeds are for the church's proposed ecumenical centre.

Rev England came to Kidderminster to work as a clergyman in 1998.

The 41-year-old South African-born pastor learned to play the bagpipes when he was 10 and as a youngster became a member of a pipes and drums band.

The father-of-two said: "My father was very keen on the bagpipes. Maybe it's because of the roots - my great grandfather was born in Dundee.

"He was always interested in that kind of music and that probably rubbed off on me."
