Massey Ferguson 4, Pershore Tn 0

AFTER Saturday's woeful display, Pershore look like they have established themselves as early relegation contenders from the ICIS Midland Combination Premier Division.

Massey made short work of the struggling home side, picking off the defence four times without reply to claim an easy three points.

Pershore started brightly, however, with early efforts from Sean Cotterill and Joe Maidment. New signing Cotterill met a tenth minute Chris Allen corner only to head over the bar and, minutes later, Maidment's well-struck free-kick was tipped round the post by the Massey goalkeeper.

Pershore were punished for not converting their early pressure when, in the 16th minute, a needless foul by new boy Gary Smith gave Massey the early breakthrough. A swiftly taken free- kick was driven across the face of goal and deflected in off the unlucky Cotterill's chest.

Jon Gregory was Pershore's lone threat and his powerful 30-yard strike flew just wide. Then, on 44 minutes, the same player hit a shot from an Allen cross only to be foiled by the assured Massey keeper.

After the interval Pershore's defence was cut open with unerring regularity as centre back pairing Colin Fulloway and Cotterill struggled to cope with the lively Massey forwards.

A break down the right in the 55th minute created an opportunity for winger Paul Woods to cut inside and drive home his side's second.

Nine minutes later, Pershore were opened up again as a ball was slipped through the middle of the back four and left keeper McLean helpless to the Massey forward's neat chip.

Manager Nigel Russell substituted main goal threat Gregory and soon after they conceded a fourth as Carpenter ran through the defensive shambles that was the home team to drive the ball high in to the roof of the net.

Town showed vast improvement at West Midlands Police on Tuesday when earning a 1-1 draw at Tally Ho.

Simon Judge gave the visitors the lead after 27 minutes but Police levelled 20 minutes from time.

Pershore poured forward in search of a winner and Simon Brain and Jon Gregory came closest to finding a winner.
