October 11 1902

EDWARD Archer, a labourer from Hinton-on-the-Green, was summoned for driving a vehicle without a light on September 24. PC Norman stated while on the Hampton Road, he saw the defendant driving a horse and dray without a light. He was fined 2s 6d and 7s 6d costs.

October 8 1927

THOUGH all trace of the object for which it was established vanished many years ago, the Evesham Mop is once more with us and appears to be as popular as ever. Fifty years ago, in the columns of the Journal, it was stated that the 'mop' was a "decaying institution, and will in time become one of the things of the past." Well, the 'mop' is still running and he would be a bold man to predict that in 50 years time hence it would be obsolete.

October 11 1952

OFFENHAM Parish Council in a letter to Evesham Rural District Council expressed their displeasure at the council's proposal to build flats on the new housing site in the village. They said they thought houses were preferable in a country parish as flats tended to urbanise a village. The chairman of the housing committee said the flats would not be of several storeys and would look like houses. He thought that the parish council would not be dissatisfied when they realised what they were like.

MANY Evesham people who have fought over the years for an indoor swimming pool for the town saw their dreams realised yesterday, when, for the first time, water gushed into the new £220,000 pool being built on the Cheltenham Road site. Work on the pool, which is rapidly nearing completion, is on schedule and there is every likelihood that the building will be handed over on November 23.
