AN Iraqi man was arrested by police in Evesham after they received reports of a man lying in the road.
Police were called to the Elm Road roundabout at 1.40pm last Sunday after a call from a concerned motorist, who had noticed the man lying face down at the side of the road.
They arrested the man on suspicion of being an illegal immigrant and he was taken to Worcester Police Station, where he was handed over to the immigration authority.
A home office spokesman said: "We can confirm that we picked up an Iraqi adult male believed to be in his 30s.
"He has claimed asylum and his claim is now being considered."
