COACHING sessions to improve standards at grass roots level are being organised by the Worcestershire Football Association.

A new FA Level 1 Club Coach award has been introduced with the goal of meeting the needs of the countless volunteers who keep the game flowing at junior level.

Worcestershire FA's football development officer, Andy Norman, said the aim was to improve coaching standards and enable parents to become more actively involved with their children's football club.

The first course starts on Sunday at Evesham United's Common Road home from 9am. The eight-hour session will include an introduction to the award followed by coaching.

Next Wednesday, there will be a workshop on child protection followed by emergency first aid instruction on October 23. Both sessions start at 6.30pm.

Coaches will be assessed for their qualification on Sunday, October 27.

There will also be two support evenings on Monday, October 14 and Tuesday, October 22 when a tutor will deliver "distant learning" modules.

Anyone over 16 who is interested in junior coaching or management is welcome to attend and should contact Andy Norman on 01905 827261.
