CRAIG Pratt brought an end to Chaddesley Corbett's goal drought but they lost 3-1 at Lye Town Reserves in West Midlands League Division One South.

Lye capped the success with an 87th minute final goal but Chaddesley produced their best display for the past four weeks.

Pratt admitted: "I'm gutted. We played some great football and I can't believe we lost.

"I worked my socks off and am obviously pleased from a personal point of view to have scored but would have swapped that for a team victory."

Chaddesley boss Martin Westcott was furious when six of his squad failed to appear for the match and he put out a patched up team with all three substitutes over 40-years-old.

However, the 11 selected put on a great performance and only three terrible individual errors gifted Lye the points.

Pratt forced a good save out of the Lye keeper on 35 minutes following excellent work from strike partner and man-of-the-match Horace McLeod.

Richard Burton also had a fine header saved but keeper Gareth Yarsley produced two outstanding stops from opportunist efforts at the other end.

Chaddesley bossed the second half with the Burton brothers carving holes in the Lye team along with debutants Neil Brierley and Anthony Shuck.

But Lye's Ricky Dudley escaped Joss Price's attention on 55 minutes to make it 1-0 before R Burton, Shuck, Price and Ian Vogel all missed good headed chances for the visitors.

Lye snatched a second on 65 minutes through Steve Downing after a poor Yarsley goal-kick but Chaddesley responded with an eight-man move that ended with R Burton's cross headed back over the keeper by Pratt.

Chaddesley pushed for the equaliser but another poor Yarsley kick was punished by a third goal for Anthony Cox to leave a flattering final scoreline for Lye.

The players are asked to meet at Brintons at 1.30pm for Saturday's game with Malvern Rangers.
