WHEN Labour was last in power on Wyre Forest District Council, the two biggest issues facing it were the futures of Kidderminster town centre and social housing in the district.
Under Labour, council policy sought to direct core functions, such as retail and cultural activities, to the town centre site which, of course, is still under development today.
In the case of social housing, the council's creation of Wyre Forest Community Housing was designed to allow the council, among other benefits, to direct up to £10 million into the construction of new housing for rent.
These policies remain in place, despite the changes of political administration.
Over the next few weeks, the council, through its planning responsibilities, its deliberations about a potential move to a single administrative site and its consideration of proposed national changes to housing finance, will be taking crucial decisions affecting both these policy areas.
The Labour group on the council believes it is possible for all decisions to conform to the aims of both these key policies and urges all councillors to vote accordingly.
