I WAS the unfortunate victim of an attempted car theft. The thief was disturbed by a neighbour and kindly only left me with a £120 repair bill for the door.

The reason I write is two-fold.

Firstly, regarding the gentleman who migrated to the South West of the UK who had few words to say about Kidderminster (Letters, September 19).

I say live where you feel that you are part of a community. In Kidderminster there are high levels of community spirit (from the protests about the hospital and incinerator to the neighbour willing to chase off yobs).

If you didn't feel at home here perhaps you are as self-centered as your letter suggests and best served living elsewhere.

I also write to praise the police who, despite lots of bad comment, dealt with my incident admirably, making me feel supported and involved. I would like to say thank-you, especially to PC Orme who was brilliant.

So, we live in a town which suffers from crime (who doesn't?), but which also has a huge sense of community, which ultimately will succeed .

I, for one, am proud and pleased to live here!
