ATHLETICS: The juniors at Kidderminster and Stourport Athletic Club showed their potential against the best in the area at the Midland Counties road relays.

Matt Grainger recorded the best time of the day at Sutton Park, Birmingham, of 12 minutes 59 seconds in the U-17s' 4 x 3.8km relay.

In the U-15s event, Mark Roberts clocked 14-03 and Aiden Dourneen ran 15-46.

In the U-17s girls, Liz Dourneen ran the first leg in 16-05 followed by Fay Kitchen, 15-11, and Heidi Jarosinski, 19-47, to give the team 14th place.

Laura Easton, 9-43, Ellie Laverty, 10-19, and Alison Mallard, 10-29, ran in the U-15 girls' 4 x 2.3km relay.

Meanwhile, Liz Gould was second lady and first veteran over-35 in the last of the North Worcestershire Multi-Terrain eight-mile series at Waseley Hills, Clent.

Gould's time was one hour 01-50 which gave her 24th place overall in the competition.

Mike Clackson was second club runner and 58th overall in 1-09-05, while Emma Payne finished as second senior lady in 1-12-43.

Payne was followed by Ruth Finney in 1-13-0 and Ron Payne, the third veteran over-60 in 1-13-14.
