MACMILLAN WORCESTERSHIRE APPEAL: The Macmillan Worldwide Coffee Morning has been much in the news recently but it may be that readers are not aware of the Macmillan Worcestershire Appeal which now has various groups established in this area, working to raise money for the provision of a urology nurse who specialises in the treatment of prostate cancer.

The Evesham group which came into being only last year has, at present, only a small committee, one of whom is Fran Webb who lives in Harvington and whose name will be familiar to all concerned with the coffee morning. Speaking to her at and after that event, it became clear that she takes her duties as publicity officer very seriously and is currently working hard to raise the profile of this local cause. The barn dance held recently at the Cricket Club whose members kindly donated the use of the building, raised £370 and the line dance event which was held in Evesham Public Hall last week raised a further £195. Fran is now urgently seeking volunteers to take part in a street collection October 18 and 19 and would be delighted to hear from anyone who is able and willing to help in this way. Details of this and other proposed activities can be obtained by ringing 870889.

AUTUMN FAIR: The senior citizens are also busy preparing for their Autumn Fair which takes place that same weekend. Please make a note of time and date, Saturday, October 19, Village Hall, 2pm to 4.30pm. Your support, which has always been generous in the past, is eagerly anticipated and will be much appreciated.

ART GROUP: The Art Group met for their first class of the winter season last Friday afternoon and were delighted to welcome six new members. They are now in the happy position of having to consider starting a waiting list! It was confirmed that, next year, they will be able to return to their old system of holding 24 meetings per year instead of the current 12. The group's participation in the forthcoming Brains of Harvington Quiz was discussed following the withdrawal of two members of the team but, luckily, two replacements were found and leader Alan Davies is happy to confirm that they will field a full team at the event on Friday, November 1.The next Art Group meeting will be on Friday, November 8 from 2pm to 4pm in the village hall. ST JAMES' CHURCH: Beautifully decorated in seasonal fruit and flowers, was the scene of two very joyful Harvest Festival services last Sunday and then again on Monday when Harvington First School held its service there too. This will be followed, as is traditional now, by the children adding the church's contribution of produce to their own, for re-distribution to elderly residents in the village. The Harvest Supper, held in the village hall on Saturday evening, saw 64 people sitting down to an excellent supper and then taking part afterwards in a money-raising 'surprise' auction, proceeds from which are to be given to charity. Sue Coley, chairman of the church social committee, expressed a deeply-felt gratitude to all who ha
