A VALE school is appealing to businesses and organisations to help it fund a £10,000 project for a new computer suite.

Abbey Park First School in Pershore is hoping local firms and groups will be kind enough to dig deep in their pockets and help sponsor the construction of a new computer room.

To aid their cause, they have embarked on a project entitled The Learning Zone, which will see funds from events over the school year being raised solely for the purpose of providing the new room.

Acting head Angela Beddow said that teaching Information Technology at the school was proving to be quite difficult.

She said: "At the moment five children are having to share a laptop at any one time. We haven't got the resources or the room to teach IT effectively and as a result IT lessons are not being run properly."

"We are hoping to try and raise £10,000 to build one at the school. It's a big target and a big challenge, but we've been awarded £750 by Barclays and £500 by Pershore Round Table and we hope other businesses will try and help us, as we can't raise that kind of money on our own."

The school aims to holding several workshops through the year, beginning with an American week on Monday, October 21, where pupils will be making cookies and pumpkin soup, which will be for sale a few days later. Children will also be dressing up in the colours of the Stars n' Stripes: red, white and blue.
