A POPULAR Powick restaurant could be demolished to make way for a housing development, under a new scheme submitted for planning approval.

It is proposed to demolish the New Hing Tai restaurant and the house at 20, Old Malvern Road, replacing them with 15 homes.

These would include a pair of three-bedroom semi-detached houses, a terrace of four two-bedroom houses and a three-storey block containing nine two-bedroom apartments.

The buildings fronting the road would be in the same position as the present buildings, with 22 parking spaces behind.

An application for full planning permission was submitted to Malvern Hills District Council without any preliminary consultation with planning officers, who were due to meet the applicant this week.

Northern area planning officer Andrew Moody said the site was within the residential settlement boundary as defined on the Local Plan.

Powick Parish Council is due to consider the plans at a meeting in the parish hall on Wednesday, October 16, starting at 7pm.

Members of the public will have the opportunity of making representations to the council at the beginning of the meeting.
