Bretforton 4, Hereford 1

DAWN Thatcher hoofed the ball upfield for player of the match Lisa Workman to open the scoring after 15 minutes.

Good play from midfielders Sophie Corbett and Sarah Adams in midfield earned Bretforton a penalty corner and the former executed a sizzling strike to make it 2-0 at half-time.

In the second half Hereford caused Bretforton to get into a bit of a mix-up at the back and a rare mistake brought them a goal from a short corner.

This, however, was like a "red rag to a bull" and Bretforton hit back keen to increase their lead.

Their efforts were rewarded and good movement resulted in another short corner and Jane Wheeler slammed the ball into the goal.

Bretforton had their tails up now while their defence subdued any attacks and the remainder of the half resembled the Foot and Mouth crisis for Hereford with all movement restricted by the Bret-forton defence, of Julie Stowe and Blanche Surman, both proved to be as "strong as an ox" in subduing any attacks.

Bretforton were 'steaked' out in the Hereford half and it was Adams who sliced her way through the Hereford players to neatly chip the ball past their goalkeeper and cap a fine victory.

Bretforton II 2, Blockley 1

BRETFORTON, sponsored by Fairview Trading of Honey-bourne, came out victors in Saturday's local derby.

They took an early lead when Kate Williams punished an error only for Blockley to level as a fiercely struck shot from Kerry Jackson was deflected into the net.

A fine save from Fiona Jordan just before the break foiled a quick break from the Blockley attackers and kept the scoreline level.

Just as the game looked as though it was fizzling out into a draw, Tracey Hodgkins drew out the defence to leave Jude Edghill with time and space to tuck the ball away and claim the points.

It's Hereford on Saturday at Evesham High School in the Cheltenham Severn League Division Two.

Stourport II 2,

Badsey Ladies 3

BADSEY continued their winning start to the league campaign despite falling behind inside the first ten minutes.

This was the spur they needed and they began to play their way back in to the game and determined play by Kerry Cassey brought about the equaliser.

Badsey then took the lead through Claire Jones but Stourport came out brighter after the restart and grabbed an early goal.

Badsey, however, determined not to let the game slip away, raised their level of play again and Jones' deflected shot capped off a fine show.

They take on Bournville at Evesham High School on Saturday (4.30pm).

Harborne 4,

Evesham Ladies 0

AFTER an ordeal of a trip to Harborne, Evesham arrived as the underdogs and thus the game never got started.

Poor passing, poor defending and poor teamwork saw Harborne 3-0 up into the second half.

This was a half-hearted effort by the entire team who lacked the will to win a game that could have been Evesham's if the determination and sparkle had been shown.

League newcomers Tenbury are the next opponents on Saturday.

Training takes place on Mondays at Evesham High School from 8pm.
