PUPPIES and kittens born on the Westlands estate will be hit by the sad demise of a town animal charity.

The Westlands Pet Project has been forced to dissolve because its founder and leading light, Pat Dymock, is "very poorly".

The charity, which had been running for nearly seven years, offers a pet neutering service for families on low income and also raises cash to neuter animals in tourist resorts abroad.

Pat, of Paddock Way, won an award earlier this year from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) for her tireless work.

The pensioner's service included driving pets to and from Mr Denny's veterinary practice in Henwick Road, Worcester, and returning them to their owners.

Because of her illness Pat can no longer drive and no-one has come forward to fill her shoes.

Charity chairman Carol Simmonds said: "I would like to thank everyone who has been involved with this cause, especially Pat.

"Come winter or summer, rain or snow, her concern was getting the animals to the vets for 8.30am.

"She never complained and although she will now be taking it easy, knowing Pat, she will still be doing some sort of help, even if it's over the phone."

Carol has a final message for town animal lovers.

"Please don't let your cats and dogs have unwanted little ones.

"Because of Mr Denny's low overheads, he is still offering to neuter pets at a cheaper rates and can be contacted on 01905 620436."
