A RECENT letter from a reader about stag hunting caused me to recall an incident that was reported in the Observer Magazine some time ago.
There was a graphic picture of a stag that had been exhausted and trapped in a stream and was killed by the hunter grabbing it by its horns, twisting it and forcing its head under the water and holding it until it drowned.
The caption said it had been running for its life for three hours. I shall never forget that picture.
Make no mistake about it this is what the Countryside Alliance march on September 22 was all about - their "right" to inflict unbelievable cruelty on animals that cannot speak for themselves.
