DEAR EDITOR - The Lickey Park Residents Association (covering Lyall Gardens, New Inns Lane, Thurloe Crescent and Woodham Close, Frankley) and the Clent Road Action Group, Rubery would like to thank everyone who turned out last Thursday for the heated and packed residents meeting at Reaside Junior School.

Unfortunately only residents who had responded to the letter of invitation sent by Callowbrook Swifts J.F.C. were allowed in to attend this closed meeting. Councillors and Press were excluded.

The combined voices of the two communities on both sides of the school playing field ('Club proposals kick up a storm' - Sep 25) are now being heard by Birmingham's Local Education Authority, Bromsgrove District Council, two M.P.'s and local councillors.

There is, as the chairman of Callowbrook Swifts has said, 'a willingness to compromise', but everyone must start talking first!

The offer made by the chair of Reaside Junior School's governing body to hold further talks with local residents before any work is started (assuming both planning applications are accepted) is a step in the right direction, but only the residents who attended the meeting are going to be invited to attend. This still leaves the majority of all residents not being consulted on future developments.

The talking needs to start now and not next month. Neither the Lickey Park Residents Association, nor the Clent Road Action Group, have been invited to formal talks with Reaside Junior School/Callowbrook Swifts J.F.C. Time is slowly but surely running out.

The "tidal wave of opposition" is in serious danger of sweeping away the good work being done by the Callowbrook Swifts J.F.C., but Birmingham Local Education Authority/Reaside Junior School cannot ride roughshod over the two local communities. One can only hope that Bromsgrove District Council will do something to ensure that all the parties concerned start talking to each other.

M.D. Packer,

Frankley.
