DEAR EDITOR - I have followed with interest the proposed development of the new Waitrose store in Droitwich and the many articles and letters that it has generated.

As we have a three mile round trip to purchase milk, bread and our daily newspaper, we have become accustomed to travelling in order to shop - no doubt in common with many other residents of Droitwich.

My parents, who live in Droitwich, shop at Safeway's in Bromsgrove and at Tesco's in Worcester where there is free parking and a better choice of goods for sale than presently available locally.

The other day we bumped into our neighbours at Tesco's in Kidderminster. Speaking with friends and relatives - out of town shopping would appear to be commonplace. A Tesco's store in Kidderminster Road might have reversed this trend but without a Tesco's we shall continue to shop out of town.

With the proposed new housing on the Kidderminster Road site, there us surely an even greater need for a superstore and petrol station on the west side of the railway line. Which if the Conservatives hadn't noticed, is still in Droitwich. As if they cared!
