DEAR EDITOR - I object strongly to Councillor Pam Davey accusing me of being "economical with the truth" (Letters/Oct 2).

1. The one thousand objections to the Waitrose plans that I mentioned had nothing to do with the Parish Poll. The report on the Waitrose plans circulated at the meeting, and written by Jack Hegarty, listed quite clearly all the objections and letters of support Wychavon had received since plans were published. To be precise - nine hundred and ninety seven people objected - with forty-three supporting the plans. This shows how much notice Mrs Davey takes of public opinion - she clearly didn't even bother to read what people of this town think.

2. Cllr Seabourne has stated publicly, in the presence of Mrs Davey, that he voted in error. He thought he was voting for the amendments. It was a mistake and Mrs Davey knows that.

3. The amendments to the design are trivial in comparison to the overall impact of a 35,000sq ft glass and metal building. The roof is not going to be white - big deal.

4. Cllr Mrs Pearce (Cons Dodderhill) lives in Bromsgrove. Cllrs Hotham and Christian-Brookes have never been elected by the people of Droitwich, nor have the other members of the planning committee who voted for the plans.

5. Droitwich Town Council objected to many aspects of the Waitrose plans. The effect on Kwik Save, parking, traffic, etc. No notice whatsoever was taken of these objections.

The next time Mrs Davey wishes 'to set the record straight', may I suggest she gets her facts right first. Perhaps if she actually took time to listen to the people of this town, she might realise how totally out of touch she really is.

J G Johnson,

Severn Court, Droitwich Spa
