THE Acorn Childrens Hospice was the beneficiary of £1,667 last Monday, raised from the charity match organised by the Birmingham City Wholesale Markets.

The Charlie Abbott Memorial Cup was fished on the river Avon at the Twyford Farm and it was Steve Woodward (Hollywood) who led the field with 9-3-0 by ledgering worm down the middle for a mainly Bream and a few Perch catch. Joint second were Wayne Weatherstone and Rod Jones with 6-9-0.

The Starlets Veterans Tuesday match was held at Moorlands Farm Silver pool with the winner staked at peg 18 and it was Dave Bennett (Stourbridge) who pole fished corn and meat for 37-12-0. Second, John Osman (Northfield), took 33-12-0 and third was Derek Buckle (Bewdley) with 27-13-0.

Wednesday's Moorlands Farm Meadow Pool open was a corn on pole venue for the first three. Dave James (Trabucco) was on peg 16 where he took top honours with a weight of 125-8-0. Second, on opposite peg 44, was Colin Pace (Bilston) with 102-10-0 and third was Chris Hill (Fosters) with 97-1-0.

Moorlands Farm Thursday open was held on the Meadow and Moors pools and was won by Mick Henshall (Fosters) with 137-9-0 pole fishing corn on peg five off the Meadow pool. Andy Newton (Lifestyle) took 92-15-0 from Moors pool peg 11 for second while third went to Darren Clewley (Wesson) with 91-14-0.

Midland Bears Disabled AA fished their event on the Ghost pool at Woodlands View with Vic Cutts (Kings Norton) pole fishing casters on peg seven with a weight of 45-6-0. Second was Al Lees (Charford) 38-6-0 and third was Mick Hands (Northfield), taking 36-5-0.

KH Starlets Veteran's Thursday contest was held at Haye Farm, Bewdley, on the Curtis pool with Brian Hill (Stourport) coming first with a 49-0-0 all Carp catch by long pole fishing shallow with maggots. Second was Mike Millinchip's (Kidderminster) 34-4-0; third, Stan James (Bewdley) with 33-8-0.

Friday saw the Moorlands Farm Meadow pool open won from peg 15 by James (Trabucco) with 172-5-0 by pole fishing corn. Richard Massey (Moorlands) took 131-13-0 for second with Andy Newton (Lifestyle) in third with 101-11-0.

A hard match showed in the weights recorded at the Lucas College Road Annual contest held on Saturday on the River Avon's Marlcliff 'B' section. John Miller (Bromsgrove) shared the winning spot with Mal Gittus (Rubery) with 2-11-0 Perch and Gudgeon catch by waggler fishing maggots. Stan Jones (Stourport) was third with 2-8-0.

Woodlands View High pool open was won by Alan Jones (Diawa Gordon League) from peg 12 for a 87-3-0 catch of Carp by pole fishing meat and corn at 11 metres. Second, Les Thompson (Shakespeare), took 82-9-0 and third was Chris Robson's (AOK) 57-11-0.

Moorlands Farm hosted the Tony Shuttleworth Memorial match on the Meadow, Moors and Bank pools. Lee Nutland (Mossella) came first from Meadow pool peg 51 for 102-15-0, fishing ten metres on the bottom with pole, corn and caster. Second was Neville Groves (Fosters) who pole fished corn at four metres on Moors pool peg four for 81-9-0; third, Ian Whitehouse (Wesson), took 77-15-0. The event raised £420 for the British Heart Foundation.

On Sunday, 90 anglers competed at the BAA Annual Canal Championships held on the Staffs-Worcs Canal at Hinksford. Leading the field was Keith Woodhead (Ovation Leisure) who pole fished casters at peg 22 for a Roach and Perch catch of 7-8-0. Second place went to Mark Ashmore (Vine AC) with 5-10-0 while team mate Lee Delves had 5-6-0 for third.

Kings Norton AS held their seventh aggregate contest at BAA Pershore on the River Avon. Top rod was Smethwick matchman Brian Groom who feeder fished red maggots from the bottom bay peg taking a specimen 11-5-0 Barbel to boost his catch to 11-14-0. Club secretary Alan Crowton took second place with 5-10-0; Richard Hoban took 3-14-0 for third.

At Woodlands View, the Deans pool open was won by Thompson (Shakespeare) from the shallows of peg 64 with a pole and chopped worm catch of 173-4-0. Kevin Slade (AOK) took the runners-up spot with 121-12-0 and third was Nathan Watson (Harrisons Tackle) with 112-4-0.

A close result was recorded at the Moorlands Farm open with Brian Hill (Warley) taking first place with a pole and corn catch of 83-0-0 from Meadow pool peg 57. Second, Andy Newton (Lifestyle), had 78-13-0 and Nick Pountin (Moorlands) was third with 78-6-0.

There will be two junior opens at Moorlands Farm on Tuesday, October 29 and Friday, November 1. Both are £5 all-in with the draws at 9.30am and fishing between 10.30am and 3.30pm.
