BARNT Green Spartak moved clear at the top of Midland Combination division two after winning 3-0 at second place Droitwich Spa.

GJ Singh's side opened up a three point gap with the victory at King George's Playing Fields last Saturday while pushing Kevin Blaber's Spa below Halfords into third.

Droitwich had plenty of the ball in the opening 10 minutes. Nigel Patterson had a great chance to put Spartak ahead when he was played in by new signing Shaid Akbar before dragging his shot wide with only the goalkeeper to beat.

Spartak did go 1-0 up on 30 minutes when a Reckey Carter shot was pushed onto the bar by Simon Williams and Akbar raced in to hook the ball into the net.

The second half was just 30 seconds old when Spa had their best effort of the match. Dave Knight latched onto a poor Mohammed pass, ran clear but saw Gary Timms save his effort with his legs.

Recky Carter put Spartak two up, scored for the seventh game in a row, on 58 minutes. Carter got on the end of an Akbar pass and calmly slotted past Williams.

Spartak were on top but did not add to their lead until ten minutes from time.

A move started by Simon Brown, found debut maker Delroy Brown who fed Adrian Knox, allowing Knox to crossed to Akbar who played it back to Knox to smash home.

Delroy Brown, signed from Leamington Hibernians, was inches from a goal himself when his 25-yard left foot drive crashed against the crossbar.

Although he accepted defeat, Spa boss Blaver was left ruing missed chances.

He said: "They deserved to win on the day but 3-0 flattered them. We had chances for the first 20 minutes but we didn't take them."
