BROMSGROVE Men's Hockey Club First XI began their DTZ West Midlands division one programme with an emphatic 4-1 home win over Market Drayton.

During an attacking first half, Bromsgrove, relegated from the West Midlands Premier last season, put their visitors under a lot of pressure and within ten minutes Ash Clarke had given the home side the lead.

This was quickly followed by two more goals for Bromsgrove through Mark Robinson and Dave Bower. The latter scored his second and Bromsgrove's fourth on the stroke of half time.

Market Drayton took the game to Bromsgrove in a competitive second half but a loss of concentration by Bromsgrove allowed the visitors to pull a goal back.

Frustration among the Bromsgrove players led to indiscipline and resulted in two yellow cards.

Despite temporarily being down to nine men, Bromsgrove held on for a deserved win with Andy Potter making some excellent saves late on.

The Seconds lost 3-2 at Stone.

After going behind a mad goalmouth scramble got Bromsgrove level before Stone went ahead again before half time.

Stone went three clear despite good goalkeeping from Swoop and Nick Frizzell clawed the visitors back to 3-2.

Dave Hewitt scored four as the Thirds thrashed Market Drayton 8-0. Kevin Bennett got a hat-trick and John Lewis hit one.

A young Fourths side drew 0-0 with Worcester Norton.

Man of the match was 15-year-old Martin Strong.

Junior training sessions are at Bromsgrove School, in Worcester Road, on Sunday from 9.30am to 11am for six to 14-year-olds and from 11am until 12.30am for U16s.

Bromsgrove Men's and Ladies' training is on Wednesdays between 8pm and 9.30pm at the same venue.
