THE number of police officers serving with West Mercia Constabulary has reached an all-time high after the recruitment of 51 men and women.

Forty probationers and 11 transferees took the Constable's Oath during the attestation ceremony yesterday evening at Hindlip Hall.

The ceremony also marked the arrival of the first 135 of the 300 additional police officers the force has pledged to recruit by next April.

Deputy Chief Con Alan Bridge, the leader of the recruitment campaign, said that the ceremony showed their commitment to seeking people with the right qualities to become police officers.

"These major milestones show we are well on target to reach our goal of an extra 300 police officers in the force by next April," he said.

Anyone interested in joining the police should call the recruitment hotline on 01905 455051.
