I WRITE to express my concern over aspects of the campaign you are running for the support of the new football stadium and retail enabling development in Worcester, particularly with regard to the voting slip in the Evening News on September 29.

I fully support the concept of the new stadium if it is truly needed. I understand the concept of enabling developments, I even understand the concept of planning gain from the council's point of view. However, there are three aspects of this project I do not understand:

1. The traffic this project will generate and the extent of car parking required to accommodate supporters of both ventures will be immense. Has nobody realised that the busiest times of the week for a DIY store such as proposed in the enabling project are Saturday and Sunday afternoons? This is I believe, also the traditional time for football matches to be played.

2. Worcester has so many potential "brownfield sites". Why do green fields on the edge of the city have to be swallowed up? Football is often described as the people's game and therefore should be as accessible to as many of them as possible. A ground stuck out in the countryside away from public transport is hardly accessible.

3. I find your blatant advertising on their behalf in every headline, article, statement and voting slip you run even more offensive than the apparent support for the monopoly the city council appears happy to encourage with Tesco, which is something you have reported.

4. Points 1 and 2 above are principally issues for the planners to consider. My remaining point is one for you. Please do not encourage people to rush headlong into this without thinking the facts through your biased reporting.
