WORCESTERSHIRE-based Saracens maintained their 100 per cent record with their second win of the season in Division Seven of the National Clubs Netball League.

They ran out 38-34 winners against Clan from High Wycombe, who they played last year in the play-offs of the knock-out tournament, at Sport Martley.

Saracens, who had won 53-25 away to Sheffield Open in their first match, started well and quickly took a five-goal lead, however Clan began to settle in to their game and clawed back to draw level.

Saracens' defence of Dawn Burford, Sally Hill and Shelley Hudson worked tirelessly to deny the Clan attack and they ended the quarter with a two-goal lead.

Saracens maintained the pressure during the second quarter and they increased their lead to three goals thanks to the shooting of Carrie Fearby and Karen Moore.

Saracens made two changes at half-time replacing Mel Hunt with Hudson at Centre and Karen Greenfield came on at wing-defence. The changes worked well and more space was created on court which allowed Saracens to have a free-flowing game, opening up a five-goal lead at the end of three-quarter time.

Saracens kept the team the same for the final 15 minutes and knew that they only had to score from their centre passes to gain another victory.

But Clan started better and their shooters hit the target with great accuracy and even went a goal ahead at 34-33.

Saracens showed they have great determination, regained their composure and a couple of interceptions from the defence helped to turn the game around again. Moore put away a few important goals.

Saracens top the table and their next game is on Sunday, October 20 at Northampton against Unit 7.

Their next home game is on November 3 at Sport Martley.
