WOMEN are being urged to keep an eye on their handbags after five were stolen in two weeks.
The thefts took place at the recycling bins at Safeway, Droitwich, when women left their cars to put material into the bins.
Police said users of the recycling bins often leave their vehicles unlocked for a few minutes, with possessions on the passenger seat, while they use the bins.
"Police are today warning those people using recycling bins to secure their vehicles as it takes only a few seconds for a thief to snatch a bag or a purse," said a spokeswoman for Worcester police.
A man appeared before Worcester magistrates on Saturday, charged with attempted theft by the recycling bins.
He was remanded in custody.
