TONY Blair is said to be returning to the domestic agenda with a promise, quote "to continue wealth redistribution and make reduction of child poverty a key objective and be honest about putting up taxes".
I have never heard of children being poor. I have heard of poor parents, but I'm afraid there always will be. In a free democratic society wealth redistributes itself, with the opportunity for those who are poor to become rich and for the rich to lose what they have and become poor. There is a saying, clogs to clogs in three generations.
Everyone receives free education, free medical attention and no one starves. We cannot provide more, only incentives to ensure sufficient funding is available to pay for these benefits. The truth is this means more taxation, not wealth redistribution.
JOHN TAINTON, Lower Broadheath.
