MANAGERLESS Stourport Swifts were set to appoint a new man to the Walshes Meadow hot-seat today and on the evidence of Saturday's first 20 minutes he can't come quick enough.

Swifts fell 4-2 at Mangotsfield United in the FA Trophy after conceding four goals in the opening quarter.

But caretaker boss Jan Mulders refused to be downcast after his side mounted a spirited comeback. He said: "Hopefully the new manager will be appointed in time for a friendly tomorrow when he can have a look at the players here.

"I have a lot of faith in what we have got. We just need a few breaks and one or two players and we are not too far from turning the corner," said the veteran defender.

His faith was tested early on as Stourport buckled under the onslaught falling behind to Steve Campbell's sumptuous fourth minute chip.

Ten minutes later the def-ence allowed a hopeful punt to reach Darren Edwards who raced through before tucking the ball past young goalkeeper Steve Nicholson.

A David Elsey penalty and Dave Seal's tap-in in the 21st minute completed the rout.

But the visitors shuffled their pack in the second half and the introduction of winger Richie Gardner and young striker Ted Bayliss livened things up.

Bayliss fired in from the edge of the area 16 minutes from time before an enterprising run from Gardner allowed John Shirley to drill home from 20 yards.
